Benjamin F. Thompson collection, 1806-1956.

Correspondence, photographs, research notes, genealogy, clippings and other material of and about Benjamin F. Thompson and his family, including his wife, Mary Greene Thompson, and his father-in-law, the Rev. Zachariah Greene. Correspondence includes family letters to Thompson's son, Edward, and others; and letters concerning research for his history. Correspondents include Henry P. Dering, Henry Floyd Jones, M. Dickerson, Samuel D. Greene, John L. Lawrence and John M. Williamson. Genealogical material includes information of the Thompson, Green, Woodhull, Howard and Vanderhoef families. Other items of note include an autograph book of Mrs. B.F. Thompson, 1828-1840, with sketches by William Sidney Mount; receipts for printing the "History of Long Island;" will and probate of B.F. Thompson; and letters of Zachariah Greene to his children.

Zachariah Greene (1760-1858) was a Presbyterian minister who served congregations in North Stamford, CT, as well as the towns of Cutchogue and Setauket in Long Island. After serving on the American side during the Revolutionary War, from which he was discharged after being wounded, Greene attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
